Your Work
How did you get started with Salesforce?
I spent the first 10 years of my career as a .NET developer and was first introduced to Salesforce while working for a company in the railroad industry. They used Salesforce to keep track of certain job related information and many of the applications that I created & supported relied heavily upon that data. I integrated my applications with Salesforce, but was generally apprehensive about learning something completely new and different. However, that all changed whenever my colleague, who was the only Salesforce expert at our company, decided to take a new job. At that point, I knew I had to dive headfirst into Salesforce since I would be supporting the org going forward. Within 30 days I had become a Trailhead Ranger and passed the Salesforce Administrator exam. Soon after, I got my Salesforce Developer 1 certification and I was officially hooked. Shortly after that, I got my first job as a Salesforce Developer with a consulting firm.
What’s your favorite thing about building solutions with Salesforce?
There is a lot less overhead and setup required, compared to working with other technologies, which allows you to create solutions quickly.
What energizes you at work?
The excitement of a customer whenever they get to see the solution you’ve built for them. I love knowing that my work is solving problems and having a positive impact on someone’s experience with a company, whether as an employee or customer.
Name a work achievement you’re proud of.
At a previous company, I replaced a billing system with a brand new application that I wrote completely from scratch. It was integrated with Salesforce and simplified a very difficult, inefficient and time consuming process. It made people’s jobs easier and I’m proud to know that it is still in use to this day and working well.
